BASIC FIRST AID

This comprehensive course is particularly suited to those with an interest in learning first aid. The basic first aid course will enable volunteers to act as a back up to l First Aiders in the event of an emergency  and/or respond to an emergency prior to the arrival of more qualified personnel.
Volunteers will learn a range of practical basic first aid skills so that they can deal competently and confidently with common injuries at the emergency scene. Included in the training are the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the action to take in the event of choking for adults and children.  The course can be adapted to include training in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator if required.

  • Cardiac first responder (AED) training can be included as an add-on.

Training Methodology

Our approach to training incorporates both practical and interactive learning, giving the volunteers the confidence and ability to put theory into practice and to cope with real-life situations that may arise in the event of an emergency. We partner bodies and experienced instructors with years of practical experience in front line emergency care and tutoring all levels of learners.

Assessment/Evaluation
Skills are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course.

Certification
Successful completion of this course leads to the awarding of an AVEDIAN certificate and a certificate from the training partner. This certificate in Basic First Aid is valid for 2 years. If the Cardiac First Responder module is included, an additional certificate and wallet-sized certification card will be issued.
